Services to Schools

Bangor University offers a range of activities for schools and colleges, with the aim of increasing awareness of Higher Education and encouraging young people to consider the opportunities available to them. These activities range from pre-application advice and guidance talks to interactive sessions aimed at raising the aspirations of younger pupils.

For Years 12 and 13

Pre-application advice and guidance/Schools liaison talks

Presentations on Bangor University and advice on preparing for Higher Education are offered by the University’s Schools Liaison Officers. The topics covered include; How to choose, Where to choose; Completing the UCAS Form; Preparing your Personal Statement; Preparing for interviews.

Arrange for us to come to a careers fair, give a talk or visit Bangor University.

Student-led activities

Current Bangor students can visit your school to lead a question-and-answer session on student life and what it’s like to study at University.

Visits to the University

A tailored programme is drawn up for each school wishing to bring a group of pupils (or the whole year group) on a visit to Bangor. The activities available include talks by particular academic departments; guided tours of the campus (including student accommodation and sports facilities); a visit to/presentation by the Students’ Union; workshops/presentations on team-building, graduate careers, study skills and progression to Higher Education. The visits can be either day-long visits or residential visits.

For Younger Pupils

Visits to the University

A school bringing a group of younger pupils on an aspiration-raising visit to the University would usually be offered a broad programme consisting, for example, of a visit to an academic department, a guided tour of the campus (including student accommodation and sports facilities), and a general introduction to university and student life.

Residential visits

Bangor is an ideal base for a residential visit, and dozens of schools return here on an annual basis for activities ranging from fieldwork and activity weeks to Sixth Form Induction and Introduction to HE programmes.

The choice of accommodation is either standard accommodation in traditional halls of residence or en-suite study bedrooms in the newer halls, while the catering provision includes both cafeteria meals and packed lunches as required.

Support for Schools and Teachers

The School of Educational Sciences at Bangor University provides initial teacher training (BEd, BSc leading to QTS, and PGCE courses) for those wishing to enter a career in education, as well as continuing professional development courses for teachers.
